Workshops & Events
May 4, 2020
The Fiber Craft Studio has been closed since March 16, and although we are holding virtual classes for our one-year courses, we have not had open studios nor spring workshops that were in the planning stage. We are also uncertain about the timing of the summer sessions of our four-year part-time program, The Applied Arts Course.
The work of the Fiber Craft Studio is especially important at this time. Working quietly with our hands is an antidote for excess screen time, stress, and anxiety. Handwork allows us to engage in a creative act, to sit quietly and meditatively, to calm our soul and nourish our senses at a time when so many are suffering.
While the studio is closed to visitors, we continue working hard to bring the benefits of handwork to the world. Our all-new online store offers a wealth of kits and materials, including projects suitable for children. We also offer gift cards for future use for a class or purchase. Please visit! We are planning to upload some videos and suggestions for activities to do at home. Individually, we are making and donating masks for the hospitals and community. And as a hopeful gesture, we have started seeds for our dye garden.
At the studio, we have been able to maintain our weekly study (through online conferencing) for inspiration and as rhythmic strengthening. We begin and end each session with the following verse by Rudolf Steiner that has been spoken at the studio since its beginning.
In the head, the light of thinking,
In the heart the loom of feeling,
In the limbs the strength of will;
Weaving of radiant light,
Strength of the weaving,
Light of the surging strength,
Lo, this is Man.

Our best wishes to all.
